Content Pillars & Pyramids: One and the same

The Content Marketeer lays out a framework for content marketing that they call a content cont pillar whereby you create a single large and thoughtful piece of content such as an eBook.  From there, you launch a campaign of creating dozens, maybe even a hundred pieces of derivative content such as tweets or blog posts to name a few.

Here’s how they define a content marketing pillar:

A content pillar is a substantive and informative work on a specific topic or theme that can be broken into many derivative pieces of content to cover multiple channels. A content pillar can be an eBook, report, guide, long video, or any significant (meaning large and thorough) content asset.

Three years earlier, I originally created an analogous framework and thought process that I called a content marketing pyramid.  It’s great to see others adopting this framework.  However, personally, I feel that the content marketing pyramid is easier to both visualize and comprehend that the pillar framework.
