    1. Yahoo to kill Snip.it like how they destroyed del.icio.us?

According the the article, Yahoo is expected to announce that it has acquired Snip.it, a Pinterest-like site for article curation, according to sources who are familiar with the deal.  Kara Swisher comments on Yahoo's new approach to become a content destination:

Thus, the thinking goes, while Google is the place people come to search for links, Yahoo then becomes the place users come to find content. That means more partnership deals from third-party sources, with an additional social component layer and synced across a number of devices and platforms, especially video.

However, given Yahoo's track record with integrating start ups and growing them, it's likely that Yahoo will eventually disband Snip.it after a few years.  Remember, Yahoo has done this before with another curation start up that had even more traction, del.icio.us.

Content marketing remains the bright, shiny objet du jour for marketers, even as they work to figure out how to best implement it and measure results. Content marketing is attracting its share of marketers' budgets -- 12% on average -- and more than half of marketers plan to spend even more in the coming year, according to a survey Ad Age conducted in late 2012 of nearly 600 marketers.

    9. Evolving Social Media Marketing – From Content Marketing to Contextual Content Marketing

Content for the People If I had to pick one key area of evolution of social media marketing in 2012, I would say it was the integration of content marketing into social strategies and plans. 11. Content curation can help thought leadership, but needs more too

Jay Palter aruges back against Eric Wittlake‘s post called "Three Reasons Content Curation is Overrated".  He distinguishes the difference between curation and thought leadership and points out how the former can support the latter, but the former (curation) is not enough to solely establish thought leadership.  Here's an excerpt from his article where he points out the distinguishing factors between simply curating and truly being a thought leader:

Thought leadership is about demonstrating clarity of vision and in order to establish it you need to create content that expresses that vision. But you also need to show that you can recognize that vision in others. To my mind, thought leaders both articulate their own vision and identify it and tease it out of other people’s work. It’s not an either/or proposition.

    12. Curated content plays a strong role early in the buying a cycle

A recent MarketingProfs article based on an IDG report provides a framework for what types of content play a strong role at each stage in the buying cycle.  Not surprisingly, curated content that provide a general overview, along with news content plays a strong role as buyers decide to move forward or not early in the buying process:

Early in the purchase process, when determining business need and technical requirements, ITDMs rank content such as feature articles, technology news stories, how-to articles, and whitepapers as most important.

Here ITDMs stands for information technology decision-makers.  While this article pertains to IT buyers, there's no reason why the role of top of the funnel curated content does not also play a identical role for other industries and buyers.
