But the point is that the flood of new content appearing daily on the web exceeds the ability of any busy executive or manager to glean value and meaning out of the flood. It's real work, and requires a tireless commitment to being engaged and ready to rebroadcast timely material. While there may be an economic benefit for being a "thought leader" and "trusted curator," it's not going to happen overnight. Which is to say, being a superhero is often a thankless job.

As much as anything, that simple observation explains why content marketing, and content curation as a way of approaching content marketing, makes more sense than it might have in the past. Also, in the recent past, gathering an audience has relied more on traditional search engine optimization techniques such as link-building and keyword strategies. These days, it is just as sensible to rely on a content-rich approach that uses storytelling and "interesting" and "useful" content to drive prospect attention.
